🌱 Eco-friendly fabrics: what you wear matters
Share
🌿 What is an “ ecological ” fabric?
Spoiler: It's not just a green label.
An ecological fabric is a textile whose environmental impact is reduced at each stage of its life cycle:
from cultivation (or recycling) to production, from transport to end of life.
It uses less water , less energy , fewer chemicals .
It respects biodiversity , soils , and often human rights .
Basically, it's a fabric that doesn't explode the planet to dress you in .
💡 The materials we love
Here are some of the eco-friendly fabrics we favor at home — because they're better for you , for the people who make them , and for the Earth .
1. 🌾 Organic cotton
No GMOs. No toxic pesticides. Less water.
And often, better working conditions for producers.
💚 Result: cotton that’s softer for your skin and healthier for the planet.
✅ GOTS, OCS, OEKO-TEX certified
2. ♻️ Recycled cotton
Nothing is lost, everything is transformed.
We collect production scraps or used clothing, we re-sell them, and it produces a new fabric — without re-cultivating cotton.
🌍 Less waste. Less pollution. More common sense.
3. 🧵 Recycled polyester
Initially, we weren't fans of polyester. Too much plastic , too polluting.
But recycling it means giving it a second life without drawing on new resources.
It is used in certain items (bags, sweatshirts, etc.) mixed with organic cotton for greater durability.
✅ GRS (Global Recycled Standard) certified
4. 🌿 Tencel™ (or lyocell)
Made from wood pulp (usually eucalyptus), manufactured with a 99% recycled non-toxic solvent .
Super soft, fluid, naturally antibacterial.
🍃 A technical and chic fabric, with real respect for the forest.
🚫 What about “fake eco” fabrics?
Beware of marketing traps:
– “Natural fabric” ≠ ecological
– “Eco-responsible” without proof = bullshit
– “Bamboo”? Not always clean if it’s chemically processed
At Memento Terra, we work with reliable labels :
GOTS, OEKO-TEX, OCS, GRS .
Because we prefer to be clear than flattering.
🖤 Why does it matter?
Because fashion pollutes . It’s even the second most polluting industry in the world .
Because we cannot defend a style, a fight, a vision of the world...
with a t-shirt made with oil, sweat and silence.
With us, each fabric tells a story .
And we hope that when you wear it, it's yours too .
✍️ In summary:
✔ Organic cotton = less water, no chemicals
✔ Recycled cotton = zero waste
✔ Recycled polyester = second chance
✔ Tencel = green technology and ultimate softness
✔ Certifications = traceability & transparency
📌 The final word:
Ethical clothing starts with what it touches: your skin.
At Memento Terra , we want this contact to be fair, gentle and honest .
Because we believe that what we wear leaves a mark . And that we can choose which mark to leave .
